Amplified Voices: Development Fund Participants

Congrats to the 2025 cohort

The Amplified Voices Development Fund provides funding and training to develop high quality creative content to a level that can attract partners, financing and distribution so that it can move into production. Companies may submit an application to the fund to receive one of a limited number of grants to assist them with their project development activities. More info on the fund can be found HERE.

Project: Kinship

Project Summary: Kinship is a documentary film project aimed at exploring the intricate family dynamics within the African Nova Scotian community of North Preston. Through intimate storytelling, the film delves into various relationship themes, including sisterhood, father-daughter bonds, son-father relationships, and mother-son connections.

Project Summary: In this feature film, Max, a small-time crook, learns that his estranged grandfather—a former counterfeiter with a hazy memory—may hold the key to a long-lost, highly coveted forged masterpiece. The two embark on a wild journey to reconnect with old friends, lost loves, and forgotten crimes before time runs out.

Project: Cyn of Omission

Project Summary: Cyn of Omission is an evocative drama series set in 1942 Canada, following the intelligent and tenacious Detective Cynthia Richards as she navigates the complexities of a small town steeped in secrets. Known for her piercing insight and resilience, Cynthia partners with Cleo James, an enthusiastic law student, forming an unlikely duo determined to unveil the truth behind local mysteries.

Project Summary: Jerrica and Avani have been friends since high school, coming from different cliques–the opposite girls couldn’t help but attract. Since their days of pep rallies and all-nighters are over, the pair are setting out to become well-respected women in the workforce. With Jerrica securing a cushy position at a well-respected law firm, Avani is running to even the darkest corners of Indeed to secure a paycheque before their ever-increasing rent is due. Project Summary: Two is an intimate, character-driven story following Clara and Marc, parents to two-year-old Ollie, as they navigate a year of change, conflict, and rediscovery. Structured into four seasonal chapters, the film explores the pressures of modern parenting, the strain on relationships, and the journey toward resilience and reconnection.

Project: Afraid of the Dark

Project Summary: In the vibrant yet challenging landscape of Mulgrave Park, Kahlua Thomas emerges as a powerful protagonist—an 18-year-old Black poet whose life is a delicate tapestry of resilience, hope, and profound loss. The narrative unfolds against a backdrop of systemic violence, community struggle, and the relentless pursuit of personal and collective transformation. Feature film. 

Project: Jebb & Flo

Project Summary: In this feature film, a trans marine biology student falls in love with a mermaid and must rescue her from her display tank at the local tourist aquarium and set her free from the loving hold of his heart in order to ultimately save her life.

Project: Daughter of Eual
Producer / Screenwriter: Erica Meus-Saunders
Project Summary: Daughter of Eual is a limited TV series based on a short film Eualander, currently airing on CBC Gem. A young (adopted) Black woman befriends a stranger at her local library and discovers he is her biological brother, and their inherited extra-terrestrial family secret. Her entire world changes as she learns and unpacks her true identity.

Project: Halfway

Project Summary: Halfway is a half-hour drama series, that follows the intersecting lives of four biracial women: two sisters in their forties, a woman in her late thirties, and a younger woman in her late twenties, as they navigate the everyday struggles of motherhood, queerness, cheating partners, unaccepting in-laws, self-discovery, and developing trust in new friendships. When an accident occurs, the strength of their relationship bond is tested as they unpack the traumatic incident that changes their lives for better or for worse.
