Screen Nova Scotia is pleased to officially announce the nominees for the annual Screen Nova Scotia Awards Gala, which will take place on Saturday, May 11th, in the Bruce Guthro Theatre at Casino Nova Scotia. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the prominent industry event, which recognizes and celebrates the incredible talent, creativity, and passion that are the trademarks of Nova Scotia’s film, television and animation industry.

“Screen Nova Scotia is proud to honour this year’s talented nominees, across all award categories,” said Laura Mackenzie, Executive Director, Screen Nova Scotia. “As we celebrate ten years of the awards gala, we also reflect on a decade of hard work, perseverance, and dedication that has collectively resulted in where we are today. Our talent is world class, our momentum is exponential, and our impact is immeasurable.”

Notable awards presented during the event include the ACTRA Maritimes Awards for Outstanding Performances, the Film Crew Excellence Award, the Women in Film & Television – Atlantic Award, the Community Recognition Award, and the Screen Nova Scotia awards for best television, film, and animation.

New 2024 awards include the Screen Nova Scotia award for Outstanding Achievement in Screenwriting and the addition of a new category from ACTRA Maritimes for Series Ensemble.

“We’re so excited to see that this year’s nominees highlight our talented local performers in a wide array of productions that bring some of the best our region has to offer to audiences here at home, across the country, and around the world,” said Bradley Au, Branch Representative, ACTRA Maritimes.

The event will be hosted by Canadian television icon Jonathan Torrens, who hosted the inaugural awards gala in 2015. The show will also include special guest appearances and award presenters representing a wide array of Nova Scotia’s brightest talents from in front of and behind the camera.

This year’s prestigious Industry Champion Award will be awarded posthumously to visionary television producer David MacLeod. A passionate industry advocate and a pillar in the local production community for over 30 years, MacLeod will be remembered for mentoring and encouraging an entire generation of Nova Scotian filmmakers. MacLeod was a true trailblazer and instrumental in the early success of Screen Nova Scotia as a founder and long-time board member. A snapshot of his credits include Pure, Haven, Call me Fitz, Sex Traffic, Sea Change, Moby Dick, and more. The winners of the Community Recognition Award and the Film Crew Excellence Award will be announced live during the event. Please see a full list of all other award nominees HERE.

Individual tickets and group tables will go on sale early next week (April 16) and will be available to purchase on Screen Nova Scotia’s website: www.screennovascotia.com. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, Screen Nova Scotia will also be hosting a VIP after party for ticket holders in the Compass Room at Casino Nova Scotia immediately following the show. Please note that tickets are limited and last year’s show was a sold-out event.
