Darcy began working on screenplays in 2010, when he and Seth Smith co-wrote the cult hit Lowlife. The film premiered at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival in 2012 and went on to win the Audience Award for Best Feature at Atlantic Film Festival that same year. In 2014, Smith and Spidle won the Harold Greenberg/Telefilm Script Development contest for their feature-length screenplay SINGER. Most recently, Spidle wrote the screenplay for Smith’s The Crescent. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2017 and won three awards at FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival. Of those prizes, Spidle took home The Michael Weir Award for Best Atlantic Screenwriting. Previously, Spidle was creative director at the Obey Convention, Atlantic Canada’s premier experimental music and arts festival. He currently works as a writer and internationally recognized jaw harpist.

Cut/Off/Tail Pictures is a Nova Scotia-based film production company made up of director Seth A Smith, producer, Nancy Urich, and screenwriter Darcy Spidle. The three have come together through their backgrounds in music and art releases, and have been focused on developing and producing scripted independent film content for multi-platform release for the past ten years. The latest feature, Tin Can is currently awaiting to announce it's North American release and had it's international premiere at Sitges in 2020. 2017's The Crescent, screened at top-tier festivals such as TIFF, Sitges, and Torino had received a number of awards and nominations.
