Gharrett Patrick Paon

Gharrett Patrick Paon is an award-winning actor-turned-producer from Nova Scotia. He has been in the industry for over 15 years, holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University (’17), is an alumnus of the Canadian Film Centre’s – Producer’s Lab (’17), and National Screen Institute’s – Features First Program (’19). Gharrett is also a member of the CMPA Feature Film Committee. Gharrett is the president and founder of Rebel Road Films, a boutique Canadian production company. Committed to creative excellence, his mandate for the company is: Build a landmark, not a slate. This hyper-focused approach drives Gharrett towards supporting emerging auteur filmmakers exploring socially relevant subject matter, with strong international market, festival, and awards potential.

Rebel Roads first feature ‘Wildhood’ (Mongrel Media/Hulu) has become one of the most celebrated Canadian, Indigenous, and queer films of 2021-22, collecting over 15 awards and 10 nominations internationally. ‘Wildhood’ world premiered at TIFF, followed by AFI Fest, and received a Special Mention from Palm Springs. In 2022, Rebel Roads projects earned 8 Canadian Screen Award nominations, including Best Motion Picture (Wildhood), and won the Best Supporting Actor Award for Joshua Odjick (Wildhood), and Best Direction for a Factual Series Award for Stephanie Joline (Spirit Talker – Season 1). Gharrett is also a producer on Charles Wahl’s ‘The Mohel’ (Ouat Media), which recently won Best Live-Action Short at Palm Springs Shortfest (’21), premiered at SXSW (’21) and was released online as a Vimeo Staff Pick and Short of the Week. He also produced and co-created ‘I am Syd Stone’, a Telefilm Talent to Watch Short Form Series, and two seasons of ‘Spirit Talker’, a travel documentary series for APTN. Gharrett also wrote and directed several episodes of Spirit Talker and is outlining a feature he intends to write and direct. Since its inception in 2017, Rebel Roads projects have amassed more than 20 awards, and 15 nominations and have been programmed at over 75 festivals worldwide with over 10 gala screenings, and more festivals on the horizon as ‘Wildhood’ continues to be programmed all over the world. Rebel Roads projects have sold to Hulu (US), Films Boutique (GER), Mongrel Media (CA), Wolfe (US), Peccadillo Pics (UK), HBO Eastern Europe (Various), Outplay (FR), Salzgeber (GER & AUST), Dark Star Pictures (US), LevelFILM (CA), OutTV (CA & various Int’l), Crave (CA), CBC (CA), APTN (CA), and Dekkoo (US).

Gharrett continues to perform onscreen and is represented by Amanda Rosenthal at ART Agency, one of Canada’s top talent agents. He’s been nominated for three ACTRA awards and in 2021 he filmed a 7-episode recurring role on the fourth season of ‘The Sinner’ (USA Network/Netflix) opposite Bill Pullman and Frances Fisher. He’s also known for recurring roles on ‘The Killing’ (AMC/Netflix), ‘Life Unexpected’ (CW), ‘Haven’ (Syfy), ‘Forgive Me’ (Superchannel), ‘Sex & Violence’ (OutTV), and his starring role in the Iris-prize nominated short ‘I am Syd Stone’.
