JOB POSTING: INDUSTRY & LOCATIONS SERVICES MANAGER

Purpose: The Industry & Locations Services Manager coordinates and administers all aspects of Screen Nova Scotia’s presence at industry events, as well as providing support to Nova Scotia producers travelling to markets and who are bringing in external producers for provincial scouting missions. They will be responsible for building our online locations database and providing locations services (script breakdown and creating locations packages). Candidates will be expected to be familiar with the research, recommendations and work plan outlined in Screen Nova Scotia’s 2017 Export Plan, and our 2017 Strategic Plan: Moving Forward. Both of these documents will be provided to candidates selected for interview.

Context: Screen Nova Scotia is a membership-based not-for-profit industry association and film commission with a volunteer board of directors and active membership that work in all areas of film, television and animation. The Industry & Locations Services Manager reports to the Executive Director, works closely with the Operations & Communications Manager, and is responsible for contracted location managers and international market consultants as needed. All employees assist with general office support, understand flexible hours are often necessary, and are available to travel throughout Nova Scotia and out of province as required.

Who we are looking for: The successful candidate will be curious, entrepreneurial, and bring extensive industry knowledge/experience to the organization. To succeed, they will need a solid understanding of development, production, financing, sales and distribution of film, television and animation in Nova Scotia and Canada. The successful candidate will be expected to handle international business travel, and provide support and guidance at foreign markets and festivals. Location management and scouting experience will be an asset, as well as experience with creating digital location packages.

General Responsibilities: The Industry & Locations Services Manager will provide locations expertise and support to local, national and international producers. This position responds to requests from producers who are considering Nova Scotia as a location for an upcoming project. Services to be provided include:

  • Registering, researching and delivering all locations requests & packages.
  • Providing information on incentives and permits;
  • Forwarding contact information for producers, unions and others as needed;
  • Assisting NS producers to coordinate inbound scouting missions;
  • Supervision of contractors and consultants as needed.
  • Good communications, ensuring consistency with overall value proposition, tone and brand.
  • Assists as needed with industry social, promotional and fundraising events.
  • Helping to develop marketing material and a promotional plan to support their work.
  • Monitoring all expenses involved in implementing the industry and locations services, controls the budget for activities in his/her sector.
  • Assembling data on relevant activities (performance indicators).
  • Evaluating and reporting on missions and trips, and providing management recommendations to help improve value to members, and assist with industry growth where possible.

In general, half of the job will be focused on working on industry events and missions, building relationships and fulfilling associated sponsor and grant agreements. The other half will be split between building our online locations database and providing locations services (script breakdown and creating locations packages).

Required Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent work experience
  • Solid experience in and knowledge of the screen industry and export activity.
  • Ability to fluently communicate (orally/written) in English. Familiarity in French is an asset, but not required.

Personal Qualities:

  • Good judgment, initiative, leadership, and analytical abilities; excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to negotiate and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to plan and work on several projects simultaneously and to meet objectives and deadlines in a fast-paced, high stakes environment where quick turnaround times are crucial and attention to detail a must.
