Scott Munn

Over the past 25 years, I’ve worked as a commercial and editorial photographer. My images have been featured in numerous books and magazines, including National Geographic, Nova Scotia Tourism, Parks Canada and the Globe and Mail. I’ve made a living making pictures of people and places, documenting daily life all over the world.

In 2018, I completed my first documentary film Paula with the Globe and Mail and the National Film Board of Canada, which debuted at the Lunenburg Documentary Festival in September 2019. This project began with the Globe and Mail as a feature story of a transgender woman in rural New Brunswick and her journey towards transitioning. Following the story’s success, I pitched this to the National Film Board to turn it into a short film, and it later won two national Gold awards at the 2018 Digital Media Awards.

I began work on my second documentary film project about Freeman Patterson–a renowned New Brunswick nature photographer, Order of Canada recipient, and award-winning gardener, writer, and environmentalist. The 44 minute documentary is currently airing on CBC Television and CBC Gem and received a gold award for Best Short Documentary from the Montreal Independent Film Festival 2023.

In 2024 I made my third film, Into the Cold. A short documentary about one woman’s journey into the world of cold water therapy.

Currently, we’re in preproduction on a new documentary for the CBC called, Being Here which will explore the visual artists across Mi’kma’ki, who are returning to old forms of analog photography, engaging with their communities, and showing new audiences the power of these complex and slow ways of representing the world.
Being Here combines my passion for photography and mindfulness, as I want to inspire viewers to slow down and reflect on the beauty and magic of classic photographic practices.
