Screen Nova Scotia is now accepting applications from mid-to-senior level Nova Scotia documentary and factual producers to join a Pan-Atlantic business development trip to New York from November 9th to 12th, 2022, during DOC NYC, America’s largest documentary film festival.

5-7 producers from across the Atlantic provinces will be selected to further enhance the promotion of coproduction, joint-financing, distribution and development opportunities between screen industry producers in the Atlantic Provinces and those internationally. The mission will enhance the group’s knowledge of working with producers on an international scale.

Screen Nova Scotia is the lead for this mission and will coordinate directly with the consultant throughout the entire contract. A delegate from Screen Nova Scotia will also be on the ground during the mission to help with logistical planning.

Industry Consultant: To help ensure producers are prepared for the trip, SNS will engage the services of a consultant for on-the-ground consulting services while at DOC NYC. Applicants will be notified of the consultant once they are selected. Selected candidates will be contacted by the consultant shortly thereafter to begin initial discovery sessions via conference call in advance of the mission.

COVID-19: A reminder that if the event is unable to occur in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, one-on-one meetings will be held virtually during the same dates. The decision to move from an in-person to a virtual event will be based on the Government of Canada travel advisories HERE.

Flights, Accommodations, and Travel Assistance: Producers will be responsible for booking their own travel and accommodations for this trip. The delegation must be on the ground for meetings in New York by the morning of November 9th, 2022. Nova Scotia producers can apply for travel assistance (flights, accommodation, and ground transport) via the Creative Industries Fund from the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. Please contact Jamie MacLellan, Manager, Creative Industries, for more information: (t) 902-222-3069 / (e)

Cost: Selected producers will be required to pay a $1,500 participation fee, which will include access to the consultant. Screen Nova Scotia will cover 50 percent of these costs ($750) for Nova Scotia producers.

Application Process: To be considered for the DOC NYC mission, producers must submit all required support materials by end of the day (5 p.m. AST) on Friday, September 2, 2022. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Participants will be selected based on specific criteria, and through a competitive application process. Members of an independent selection committee (comprised of experienced and respected members of the national screen industry) will review applications and select the participants. SNS will notify all applicants of the status of their application by email following the jury meeting.
