Job Positing: Industry Services & Locations Manager (Maternity Leave)

Direct Report: Executive Director
Position Status: Monday – Friday, 9AM – 5PM
Location: Screen Nova Scotia office, 1496 Lower Water Street (#502), Halifax, Nova Scotia
Term: Nine months (March 13, 2020 to January 25, 2021)

Purpose: The Industry Services & Locations Manager coordinates and administers all aspects of Screen Nova Scotia’s presence at industry markets and festival events. They provide support to the Executive Director as well as Nova Scotia producers participating in business development/trade missions. They also provide guidance to external producers who are considering Nova Scotia as a shooting location.  

Context: Screen Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit industry association and film commission. The organization is guided by a volunteer board of directors and active members that work in all areas of film, television, and animation. In addition to the Industry Services & Locations Manager’s primary purpose, they will work closely to support the Operations & Communications Manager with all SNS industry events, and support the Executive Director with scheduling, funding applications and reports. All employees assist with general office support as needed and understand flexible hours are often necessary.

Responsibilities: The Industry Services & Locations Manager will provide locations expertise and support to local, national and international producers. This position responds to requests from producers who are considering Nova Scotia as a location for an upcoming project. Services to be provided include:

  • Registering, researching and delivering all locations requests and packages.
  • Providing information on incentives and permits.
  • Forwarding contact information for producers, unions and others as needed and guided by existing policy.
  • Assisting Nova Scotia producers to coordinate inbound scouting missions.
  • Coordinating outbound producer missions to  festivals/markets.
  • Supervision of contractors and consultants as needed.
  • Assistance with industry events. 
  • Helping to develop marketing material and a promotional plan to support their work. 
  • Preparing funding applications and reports as needed.
  • Monitoring all expenses involved in implementing industry and locations services.
  • Assembling data on relevant activities (performance indicators).
  • Assisting with industry growth where possible and where deemed necessary.

In General: Half of the job will likely be working on industry events (i.e. Screenwriter Internship Program, Nova Scotia Content Market, etc.)  and preparing for producer missions at festivals/markets, while building relationships with local and international contacts and fulfilling associated sponsor and grant agreements. The other half will likely be split between building our locations database and providing locations services (i.e. script breakdowns and creating locations packages). 

Qualifications / Experience:  

  • Knowledge of locations throughout Nova Scotia (for servicing locations-related inquiries) is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of the film and television industry in Nova Scotia is an asset.
  • Experience in script-reading/breakdown is an asset 
  • Knowledge of industry export activity is an asset.
  • Event management and production experience is an asset.
  • Good communications, ensuring consistency with overall value proposition, tone and brand, is essential.
  • As a first point of contact for members of the national and international industry, the Industry Services & Locations Manager should be fast, friendly and efficient. Professionalism is required at all times.
  • Ability to plan and work on several projects simultaneously and to meet objectives/deadlines in a fast-paced, high stakes environment where quick turnaround times are crucial and attention to detail is a must.
  • Proven capacity to work collaboratively with others as part of a team, with independent problem solving abilities.
