The Nova Scotia Content Market is an annual industry event for emerging and established film and television producers in Nova Scotia to meet with influential Canadian and U.S. broadcasters, distributors, and studio executives. This market provides Nova Scotia producers with direct access to industry gatekeepers at the national and international level, across all genres and formats.

Due to the continued challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, this year’s Nova Scotia Content Market will once again move online as we present a 100% virtual event, with all training sessions, panels, and 1-2-1 pitch meetings taking place via Zoom.

Training for Emerging Producers
Dates: October 19th – 21st
As part of Screen Nova Scotia’s mandate to provide professional development initiatives, this three-day training course for emerging producers will include one day of online case studies and info sessions hosted by national funding agencies and financiers, along with a two-day virtual interactive pitch workshop with Ruth Atkinson, a Los Angeles-based script consultant and story editor with over 25 years of experience in the film/television business.

The training component of the event has expanded this year from one day to three days, in order to better provide our emerging producers with the tools and information they need to effectively pitch their projects during the 1-2-1 meetings.

Broadcaster, Distributor, and Studio Panels
Date: October 25th
This day will consist of two Zoom panels — one with attending broadcasters and one with distributors and U.S. studio executives — which will provide each resource delegate with the opportunity to introduce themselves to producers and talk about what type of content they’re currently commissioning/looking for, etc. Participation in these panels helps to ensure that the next several days of pitch meetings are as productive as possible. Panel times will be confirmed in the next few days, and a link to attend will be sent to selected producers.

1-2-1 Pitch Meetings
Dates: October 26th – 28th

This is the main event, with approx. 300 1-2-1 pre-scheduled pitch meetings taking place between broadcasters, distributors, studio executives, and Nova Scotia film and television producers. Once again we are expanding the event program to include multiple days of virtual pre-scheduled meetings. This provides our local producers with more opportunities to pitch their projects to a wider range of top-level executives across North America.

Payment: Once again we are waiving all producer fees for the market.

Zoom: Please ensure that you have Zoom downloaded and are familiar with it before your meetings. Full instructions on how to connect to your meetings will be available in advance (we’ll be using the same Breakout Rooms format as last year’s event).

1-2-1 Meetings: a full list of attending resource delegates can be found HERE. We’ll update producers if this list changes.

Producers will make their top meeting selections (max: 15 requests) in order of preference, which will then be scheduled by the SNS team based on information provided in producer applications and broadcaster/distributor/studio availability over the three days.

Please note that we do our very best to schedule each producer’s top meeting picks but we can not guarantee specific meetings, especially with highly requested delegates and/or those with limited availability in their schedules (we will also be using submitted projects/slates in order to best match producers to highly requested delegates).

We ask that all producers read the company profiles and bios of the attending delegates before making meeting requests, to ensure they will be a good fit for the projects on your slate.

If there are delegates who still have availability after all meetings requests have been scheduled, we will reach out to producers via email and offer those meeting slots on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All virtual meetings will take place on Zoom between 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM Atlantic Daylight Time, with a scheduled lunch and afternoon break. We are assuming all producers are available throughout the full three days of meetings but if you have specific availability, please let us know ASAP so we can block out your schedule. Please note that this will affect the number of meetings we can book for you.

If you are attending with a second delegate who was included in your application please highlight in your email which requested meetings they will be joining, or if they will be joining you for all of them. Second delegates must be approved by SNS before joining meetings.

The deadline to submit meeting requests to info@screennovascotia.com is Tuesday, October 12th. Due to tight timelines, we can not accept late meeting requests. We also will not be able to change or rearrange any meetings after they are scheduled.

Additional Meetings: Listed at the bottom of the Content Market Bio sheet, these are meetings that can be requested and will not count towards your total meeting requests. This is a great way to connect with local funders who will be available during the market.

If you have any questions, please contact Tara or Melanie via email.
