News Flourish

Screen Nova Scotia is now accepting applications from Nova Scotia film & television producers to join a business development trip to Berlin, Germany from February 14-21, 2018 as part of the Berlin International Film Festival, European Film Market (EFM) and Berlinale Co-Production Market. This year Canada is “Country in Focus” at EFM and Screen Nova Scotia will be part of Telefilm’s Canada Pavilion.

Please read the information below carefully before filling out the online application form (located at the bottom of the page).

The trip will include: (a fully programmed schedule will be made available in the coming weeks)

  • Group information sessions on the ground in Berlin (arranged by industry consultant)

  • Pre-scheduled individual 1-2-1 meetings, specifically catered to the producer and their project (sales agents, co-producers, etc.)

  • Access to networking & social events during European Film Market & Berlinale Co-Production Market

Due to limited space, this business development trip is open to five (5) mid to senior level producers and one (1) emerging producer. Please note that emerging producers will not be pre-scheduled for 1-2-1 meetings, but will otherwise participate in the full trip schedule (all information sessions and networking/social events).

To be considered, producers must submit a completed application by end of day (5PM EST) on Friday, December 15th, 2017. Incomplete applications and/or producers who do not meet criteria will be disqualified. Participants will be selected based on specific criteria, and through a competitive application process. Members of an independent selection committee (comprised of experienced and respected members of the national and international screen industry) will review applications and select the participants.

Participating producers will be required to pay a mission fee of $300 CAD for mid to senior level producers / $150 CAD for emerging producers. Once program funding is confirmed, Melanie Solomon, Screen Nova Scotia’s Industry Services & Locations Manager, will contact selected producers with all deadlines, workshops, conference registration and other important details.

For assistance with flights, accomodation, registration and ground transport, participants will need to apply for travel assistance via NSBI’s Export Growth Program (learn about eligible costs/guidelines HERE). Producers who have not previously applied to this program are strongly encouraged to contact Nicole Johnson-Morrison, Export Development Executive, for more information on the application process:

In early January, industry consultant (Nicola Pinder, Creatives Loop International) will meet one-on-one with each producer to approach targeted companies and pre-schedule 1-2-1 meetings. Nicola will also arrange group information sessions to provide detailed market and industry insight when on the ground in Berlin. Costs of the industry consultant are covered as part of the mission program.

If you have any questions about this business development trip, please contact Melanie or Tara.
